Boulder County to Begin Prescribed Burns at Ron Stewart Preserve and Heil Valley Ranch Early This Year

January 3, 2019
Fire crews will be conducting prescribed burns at Ron Stewart Preserve and Heil Valley Ranch this spring.

Boulder County Parks and Open Space will be conducting prescribed burns at Ron Stewart Preserve at Rabbit Mountain and Heil Valley Ranch this spring.

According to a release, fire crews will conduct burns between Jan. 10 and April 30, weather permitting.

The first burn area on Ron Stewart Preserve, about two miles northeast of Lyons, is about 30 acres in the South Dowe Flats project area, but the burn will be far enough away from recreational areas that the property will remain open. The second is a 210-acre plot in the Arapahoe project area, which will close the preserve during ignition days.

The two burn locations at Heil Valley Ranch, just south of Lyons, are an 80-acre area in the Ingersoll project area and 240 acres in the Wapiti project area.

Smoke will be visible from these burns in Boulder County.
