Powderfinger plans Neil Young birthday concert

November 7, 2018

ZUMBROTA —Neil Young’s 73 birthday will be celebrated with a tribute concert by Powderfinger at 7:30 p.m. Saturday at the State Theatre, 96 E. Fourth St., Zumbrota.

Young’s birthday is on Nov. 12. The Canadian-born singer/songwriter has carved out a 50-year career as a member of Buffalo Springfield, Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young, and as a solo artist.

Powderfinger has been performing its tribute show to Young for the past decade, emulating both Young’s slashing guitar style, the stomp of his band Crazy Horse, and his more delicate acoustic numbers. Among the songs to be featured are “Down by the River,” “Cowgirl in the Sand,” “Heart of Gold,” “Old Man” and deep cuts from all aspects of Young’s career.

Tickets are $24 in advance, $28 at the door, available through crossingsatcarnegie.com and at 507-732-7616.
