Dogs Gather at Greenwich Lawn Party To Celebrate Birthday With AM-Doggie Domiciles, Bjt
GREENWICH, Conn. (AP) _ Whoever coined the phrase ″It’s a dog’s life″ probably had no idea just how good it could be.
Max Felberbaum, a tuxedo-clad bichon frise, certainly does. The dog was one of an elite group of party animals who gathered Wednesday for a lawn party in this upscale suburb.
Unruffled by his trip from Manhattan, Max joined Sparky Duberstein, Bibi Walker and several other close friends - all the same breed - at the first birthday party of Bonnie and Clyde Frankel.
While their masters sipped champaign and nibbled turkey sandwiches, the dogs savored meatball-shaped morsels on baked biscuits and heart-shaped cookies. A cake resembling a bone took a few wallops from a hammer to convert into bite-sized portions.
President Bush’s Aunt Mary Walker, who accompanied her dog, Bibi, pronounced the event a success.
″Well, it was just perfectly lovely. I’ve never been to a party like this before,″ she said. ″It’s a really wonderful idea. It’s so adorable.″
Some dogs arrived in limousines, and at least one wore what appeared to be a diamond-studded collar.
″Of course it’s real,″ a guest remarked.
Barbara Frankel, the hostess, admitted that some might find the gathering odd. ″You can imagine my friends think I’m certifiable, but it makes me happy,″ she said.
As for next year’s party, Bambi Felberbaum, Max’s master, said: ″I think for the second anniversary we’ll have to fly them to Paris. It’s very chic to bring your dog to a restaurant in Europe.″
