LOWELL -- Firefighters quickly knocked down a well-involved car fire before it could spread to a building feet away midday Monday.

The fire in the driveway of 2 Stevens St., located off Marginal Street in Lowell’s Highlands neighborhood, happened shortly before noon.

Firefighters responded to a 911 call of a car fire and “did a great job quickly extinguishing it,” said Fire Chief Jeff Winward.

The garage and residence were not damaged. The combination of rain and little wind outside helped the firefighters, Winward added.

Officials are investigating the cause of the fire.

“They did a great job making a quick stop,” said Deputy Chief Rodney Panneton. “They were able to stop it before it could become a building fire.”
