Lake Havasu competes in first day of state meet
The Lake Havasu track and field teams completed its first day of the Division II state championship meet at Mesa College on Wednesday.
In the boys’ 100 meter dash preliminaries, senior Jacob Schafer finished 26th with a time of 11.5.
Fellow senior Paul Davis recorded a time of 17.21 in the preliminaries of the boys’ 110m hurdles to place him 23rd.
Freshman Brenton Szymanski finished the preliminaries of the boys’ 300m hurdles with a time of 42.4 to finish 16th.
On the girls’ side, junior Kilee Greene posted a personal best in the triple jump with a leap of 33 feet and nine and 1/4 inches.
The state meet continues for the Knights on Saturday, beginning with senior Pablo Torres competing in the boys’ discus throw and Davis in the boys’ triple jump at 11:30 a.m.
Greene and senior Jaden Murray will then compete in the girls’ high jump an noon.
At 1:45, the girls’ 4x800 team consisting of seniors Zoe Dondero and Sydney Huffman, junior Dailynn Evans and sophomore Isabella Sloma will run.
Junior Joshua Hansen will wrap up the Knights’ day when he competes in the boys 1600 at 3:50 p.m. and the 800 at 6:30 p.m.
