Cougars Tuttle named Region 2 Football All-Star
New Prairie outside linebacker/strong safety Jacob Tuttle earned Indiana Football Coaches Association Region 2 All-Star honors. He was one of 30 players from Region 2 to make the team. The Region 1 team, which includes La Porte, Michigan City and South Central, will be voted on Jan. 27.
Slicers grapplers lose to DAC foe
La Porte’s wrestling team fell 48-23 at Chesterton on Wednesday night. The Slicers’ Noah Perez (182 pounds) and Jaden Browder (195) each captured pins, and Tyson Nisley (138) claimed a tech fall. Matt Neff (160) and Jacob Dewes (132) both won by decisions.
LP girls hoops game canceled
Due to an unexpected situation that arose at South Bend Washington, the Slicers JV and varsity girls basketball games scheduled for Saturday at Washington have been canceled.
Cougars girls hoops loses in Bi-County consolation
New Prairie’s girls basketball team dropped a 42-36 game to Culver in a TCU Bi-County Tournament consolation on Thursday night at LaVille. Allison Pavlick guided the Cougars (4-15) with 13 points, and Jordan Winters was right behind with 11 points. New Prairie led 10-9 after the first quarter, but got outscored 13-6 combined in the second and third periods.
Glenn girls fall in Bi-County semis, O-D rolls
John Glenn’s girls basketball team lost a thriller, 40-38, in a TCU Bi-County Tournament semifinal on Thursday night at LaVille. Bethany Hayden recorded 13 points for the Falcons (11-9), and Morgan Plunkett had 11 points. Glenn got outscored 14-4 in the second quarter, but put together a second-half comeback, outscoring the Lions 26-21, but it wasn’t quite enough. Bremen (14-6) next meets Oregon-Davis (12-7) in the TCU Bi-County Tournament final on Saturday night at 5:30 p.m. CST at LaVille. O-D cruised 65-32 over the host Lancers in another TCU Bi-County Tournament semifinal on Thursday night.
NP boys swimmers win pair in double dual, fall to foe
New Prairie’s boys swim team beat Goshen 96-87 and routed East Noble 135-50 in a double-dual meet on Tuesday in Goshen. The Cougars’ Wrigley Hemphill broke his own school record by over a second with a time of 57.62 in the 100-yard backstroke, earning first. Dalton Thomas won both the 50 and 100 freestyle, and their 200 medley relay team of Hemphill, Thomas, Tommy Eggleston and Mason Young posted first, and Nolan Szymanski tallied first in diving. Their 200 free relay team of Young, Chase Brackeen, Roman Piergalski and Thomas claimed first.
On Thursday, New Prairie got edged 94-89 at Elkhart Central. The Cougars’ Neiman Graham notched first in the 200 individual medley, and Thomas took first in the 50 free. Luke Papai captured first in the 500 free, and Hemphill won the 100 back. Their 400 free relay team of Papai, Brackeen, Eggleston and Piergalski recorded first.
Cougars girls swimmers drop double dual
New Prairie’s girls swim team fell 101-85 to Goshen and lost 123-63 to East Noble in a double-dual meet on Tuesday in Goshen. The Cougars’ Savanah Keldsen earned first in diving, and Allie Harris finished third in the 50-yard freestyle and second in the 100 breaststroke. Erin Johnson took third in the 100 free and was third as part of the 200 free relay, along with Meggan Goldenstern, Kylie Kepplin and Harris. Johnson also swam the anchor leg for the team’s third-place 400 free relay team. Also comprising that relay were Madison Waltz, Kepplin and Harmony Gadacz.
