Trio of hitters lead Warriors to rout of Parkland

May 2, 2019

MOUNT CARMEL -- Wabash Valley College baseball’s offense has been potent all season long, a collection of lethal hitters lead the Warriors to an average of 12 runs per game. They continued that trend on Tuesday when the Warriors routed Parkland 15-5 at Wabash Valley College.

The Warriors streaked well ahead in the third inning when their bats exploded for seven runs, highlighted by a grand slam off the bat of freshman shortshop Savier Pinales, leading the Warriors to an early 8-2 lead.

Head Warriors baseball coach Rob Fournier platooned a variety of arms once again, as six Warriors saw action on the mound today. Freshman righty Nick King started the game, hurling three innings of no-hit, two run baseball, though no runs were charged to King (1-0). He struck out three batters and allowed three walks in his three frames of action.

Other key Warriors at the plate included sophomore second baseman Brian Fuentes, who went 2-for-4 with a pair of home runs, four runs scored and three RBIs, and sophomore DH Miguel Rivera who went 3-for-5 with a double, a home run, two runs scored and four RBIs. Pinales finished his day 2-for-4 with his grand slam giving him his four RBIs.

Fournier surely would like his defense to be more sure-handed than they were in this one, as they were charged with two errors that allowed for three unearned runs to score.

With the victory the No. 1 ranked Warriors extended their win streak to 44 games, a near record pace. No team has been able to topple the Warriors since Feb. 16, when they lost to Wallace State CC-Hanceville.

The Warriors (46-1) will close out their season this weekend with a series against John A. Logan, beginning on Friday at home at 3 p.m., followed by the conclusion of the series in a doubleheader at Logan on Saturday beginning at noon.
