Wife Pleads Innocent to Murdering Husband

July 10, 1996

BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) _ A woman has pleaded innocent to killing her newlywed husband who had told police he feared for his life after finding a checklist that included the item ``drag him to the refrigerator. Put him in sitting straight up.″

Charinassa Fairley, charged with murder in the June killing, entered her plea Monday. Initially she had told police she had found her husband, Leroy Fairley, shot twice in the head in their backyard. Later she said she shot him during an argument.

A trial was scheduled for Oct. 21.

Leroy Fairley filed a police complaint in January after finding the bizarre murder checklist that he thought was written by Charinassa, his then-fiancee.

On the list: ``Put on gloves.″ Instructions for ``after he’s popped″ included, ``Wrap the head ... so blood won’t drip; drag him to refrigerator; put him in sitting straight up.″

Officers told Fairley to return to file formal charges but he didn’t, police spokesman Cpl. Charles Armstrong said.

``When the detectives attempted to contact him, they found out he’d married the girl,″ Armstrong said.

The Fairleys wed in April.
