Latino Corporate Directors Association Supports Transparency on Corporate Boards

March 28, 2019

WASHINGTON--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Mar 28, 2019--The Latino Corporate Directors Association (LCDA) has approved a resolution in support of the “Improving Corporate Governance Through Diversity Act” (S.360, H.R.1018), legislation that would require public companies to disclose, based on voluntary self-identification, the racial, ethnic, gender, and veteran composition of their Boards of Directors.

The bill, introduced by Senator Bob Menendez and Representative Gregory Meeks, is a sensible approach. According to Roel C. Campos, LCDA Chair of the Demand Committee, “The proposed legislation provides useful and desired board demographics that promotes transparent corporate governance on public company boards.”

“The bill has broad support, including endorsements from the U.S. Chamber of Commerce and the Council for Institutional Investors, to name a few,” said Patricia Salas Pineda, LCDA Co-founder and Board Chair. “In promoting the transparency of board demographics, investors will be better informed when making an investment decision regarding a company,” she added.

“What gets measured, gets support. This legislation makes it possible to track and advance board diversity as good corporate governance and a business advantage,” noted Esther Aguilera, LCDA President & CEO.
