Badgers football: Wisconsin comes in at No. 9 in first College Football Playoff rankings
The University of Wisconsin football team now knows exactly where it stands in the College Football Playoff race.
The CFP committee released its first rankings of the season Tuesday night, and the Badgers came in at No. 9, behind Georgia, Alabama, Notre Dame, Clemson, Oklahoma, Ohio State, Penn State and TCU.
That’s much lower than their current Associated Press and USA Today Coaches poll ranking of fourth. UW (8-0, 5-0) enters this week as one of four undefeated Power Five conference teams but hasn’t produced overly impressive results against a soft schedule. Six one-loss teams — Notre Dame, Clemson, Oklahoma, Ohio State, Penn State and TCU — are ranked higher in the first CFP rankings.
The Badgers, who currently have no ranked teams on their schedule, could have an opportunity to knock off the Buckeyes or Nittany Lions in the Big Ten Championship game on Dec. 2.
