Christmas displays remind travelers of the season

December 27, 2018

LYNCH — The spirit of Christmas exists, as evidenced by many displays all around Northeast and North Central Nebraska.

As residents living near Highway 12 know, there are many wonderful and beautiful decorations worth viewing.

Starting at the city limits on the west side of Lynch, for example, one can see two of the winners from Lynch’s Christmas Lighting contest.

To view one of them, travel east on Highway 12 from Lynch for five miles to 507 Avenue, then turn to the right and follow the Santa hats marked along the road to Purviance’s Christmas Land.

Returning to the highway and turning right or east, one can view the Christmas lights of Candy Henderson on the hill south of the highway.

This is the fifth year the public has been invited to come and view Purviance Christmas Land.

It all started with several small displays and has expanded over the years. This year, 11 new scenes were added, plus many more lights and trees.

Beside local sightseers, viewers have arrived from Omaha, Norfolk, Creighton, Hartington, South Dakota and surrounding towns to share the Christmas spirit.

Christmas Land is opened from 5:30 to 9:30 p.m. every night until New Year’s Day. There is no charge to visit Christmas Land.
