A Wake County man has been charged with murder after a Cary resident was fatally shot. Warrants say the suspect had two babies with him at the time of the killing.

James Hooker, 26, of Apex, has been charged with murder and child abuse.

First responders found 36-year-old Michael Antwan Farrington, of Cary, suffering from a gunshot wound on Arrowhead Drive in Apex around 5:40 p.m. Monday.

Farrington died at WakeMed.

Officers say Hooker had his girlfriend and children in his car during the shooting.

According to an arrest warrant, Hooker had taken a 1-year-old and a 2-week-old with him to purchase narcotics when the shooting occurred.

It was not immediately clear if bond has been set for Hooker.
