Father Says Giving Up Fight For Son Brought ‘Peace of Mind’
SAN DIEGO (AP) _ A homosexual father said his decision to give up the fight against his fundamentalist Christian ex-wife for custody of their son gave him ″peace of mind″ because the boy would not have to make a choice between them.
Brian Batey was placed in a foster home early this year while closed court hearings continued. His father, Frank, issued a statement Wednesday to say he was withdrawing from the case, but the decision does not mean his former wife, Betty Lou, would automatically be awarded custody.
Betty Lou Batey had contended that her ex-husband should not have custody because of his homosexuality. Mrs. Batey is a member of the United Pentecostal Church in Denver, Colo., which considers homosexuality a sin.
