Vikings softball, XC in action
The Lakeview High softball team was able to get a 9-5 win on Thursday night over the Blue River Panthers.
Some of the highlights for the Vikings included Jerica Mohlman, who went 3-for-5 with an RBI and a run.
Kelli Schoch went 3-for-4 with two RBI and two runs, while Kassidy Soulliere pitched all seven innings for Lakeview. She gave up five runs and struck out one batter during her time in the circle.
Vikings’ Head coach Erica Zywiec said she was happy with how her team performed in the game.
“The girls competed for the entire game tonight,” Zywiec said in comments sent to the Telegram. “We had a couple mishaps, but they didn’t let it spiral into more and came together as a team and got the win. They hit the ball hard and played defense well. I am excited to see how hard they have been working this week and how they’ve been competing with other teams.”
The next game for Lakeview (4-4) will be at 5 p.m. Tuesday against Wayne (10-0) at home.
The Lakeview High cross country team competed at the Schuyler Invitational on Thursday and ended up placing third out of eight teams.
Brenden Henggeler was the fastest runner for the Vikings, with a 5K time of 18:55. This was good enough to land him in fifth place.
Cody Schaad was right behind him with a time of 19:09, which was good enough for eighth place.
Kevin Dominguez was the next fastest Viking runner. He ran a 20:19, which earned him 19th place.
Boston Barcel ran a 20:49 for Lakeview, and ended up in 25th place.
Greyson Schatz rounded out the top five for the Vikings, ending up in 28th place with a time of 21:04.
Schuyler won the team event with an average time of 18:52.
In the girls’ race, Lakeview got sixth as a team.
Their fastest runner was Makenna Klug, who finished with a time of 23:46 and ended up in seventh place.
Lakeview’s Makenna Frenzen placed 16th with a time of 25:27.
Patty Perez was the next fastest runner for Lakeview with a time of 26:42, placing 22nd.
Emma Stewart ran a 28:36 for Lakeview, which was good enough for 25th place.
Carly Schadd rounded out the top five for the Vikings with a time of 29:18, placing 28th.
Logan View won the girl’s team event with an average time of 23:43.50.
The next race for the Lakeview will take place at 4 p.m. on Thursday at the Wahoo Invite.
