February 6, 2019

Central Community College-Columbus women’s basketball had its win streak snapped on Monday night in a 48-44 loss a the Doane JV in Crete.

After putting together back-to-back wins for the first time this season, the Raiders struggled offensively and trailed mostly throughout. Doane led 17-8 after the first quarter and 28-22 at halftime.

CCC drew within 37-35 with 10 minutes to play, but a missed 3-pointer with under 10 seconds to play sealed the Doane win.

The Raider women were coming off a 66-55 win two nights earlier in Beatrice over Southeast CC in which Monica Brooks put together a second straight double-double. Brooks scored 17 points and grabbed 11 rebounds. Last time out, a 78-66 win over the Concordia JV on Jan. 29, Brooks had a double-double as well with 14 points and 11 boards.

SOUTHEAST 85, CCC MEN 65: Southeast Community College jumped out to a 51-32 halftime advantage and controlled the game the rest of the way while dropping the CCC men to 6-15.

The Raiders had just snapped a three-game skid before the Storm shot nearly 50 percent from the floor and forced 23 CCC turnovers. Tre’vion Crawford led the Raiders with 22 points on 50 percent shooting and nine boards.

“We got off to a slow start on Saturday and couldn’t catch up,” said CCC head coach Jerry Drymon in a release. “Our ball screen defense was not good, and that caused a lot of issues. We need to guard at a higher level in order to be successful going forward.”
