August 28, 2018

FOND DU LAC—A 20-year-old Milwaukee man was sentenced Monday for a fiery fatal crash April 2, 2017, in the Fond du Lac County town of Waupun that claimed the life of Whitney Domer.

Judge Dale English sentenced Jonathan J. Vogel, to 15 years of initial confinement and seven years of extended supervision. Vogel pleaded no contest May 1, to homicide by vehicle – use of a controlled substance.

According to a press release from Fond du Lac County District Attorney Eric Toney, Vogel was the driving a Dodge Caravan on Highway 26 when it left the road near Willow Creek Road, rolled over ending up on its roof and then started on fire. Domer, the only passenger, was pinned inside the vehicle and died as a result of the crash.

Toney said, “Today the courtroom was packed with family and friends of Whitney as they shared emotional stories about what Whitney meant to her family. It was a testament to how loved Whitney was by her family and the impact she had on those around her. Whitney’s tragic death and today’s sentence is also a sad reminder of the dangers of marijuana and what can happen when you get behind the wheel under the influence of marijuana.”

Vogel received 237 days of sentence credit for time he spent in custody after being arrested.
