PAPILLION — Services for Eugene “Gene” “Lefty” Cerny, 79, Papillion, will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 30, at St. Columbkille Church in Papillion. Burial will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 1, at St. Ludger’s Cemetery in Creighton.
Visitation will be 6-8 p.m. Wednesday with a 7 p.m. vigil at the church.
Eugene “Gene” “Lefty” Cerny passed away Aug. 25, 2018, surrounded by his family.
He was born June 9, 1939, in Burke, S.D., to the late Frank and Mildred (Pistulka) Cerny.
Gene married Julia “Judy” Sukup on May 9, 1964, at St. Ludger’s Catholic Church in Creighton.
She survives him, along with their children, Dee Kohler (Steve) of Papillion, Kris Donnelly (Patrick) of Columbus, Doug Cerny (Angie) of Gretna and Gina Woods (Scott) of Grand Island; 11 grandchildren, Sarah Cooper, Drew Kohler (Jasmaine), Claire Donnelly, Mallory Woods, Sean Donnelly, Cameron Cerny, Megan Woods, Gracie Woods, Caleb Cerny, Carter Cerny and Callum Cerny; a great-grandchild, Brandon Cooper; and his siblings and in-laws, Frank (Betty) Cerny, Tom (Pam) Cerny, Midge (Don) Effle and Ray (Pat) Cerny; Ann Sukup, Dan (Connie) Sukup and Dave (Barb) Sukup.
He was preceded in death by a brother-in-law, Ray Sukup.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to St. Jude Children’s Hospital.
