Planning meetings continue for Route 66 Hot Boat and Custom Car Show
NEEDLES — The 11th annual Route 66 Hot Boat and Custom Car Show presented by South Bay Mazda and Murphy Broadcasting is scheduled for Feb. 22 and 23.
The event is held in and around Jack Smith Park at the end of Needles’ River Road.
Organizers met on Jan. 23 at the Giggling Cactus Restaurant in order to get more of the event prepared.
The tickets for the event are set for $10 a person which covers Friday and Saturday.
There are still spots open for those who would like to be a vendor during the event. The prices for vendors are $100 with no electricity for a 12x12 table and $150 with electricity for the same size table.
Early registration (Feb. 1) is still going on for those who would like to enter their custom car or boat in the event. The prices for those who register before the deadline of Feb. 1 are $50 for cars or boats; after Feb. 1 the registration goes up to $80.

The event organizers are looking for volunteers. Those who would like to help may contact the chamber for a volunteer form.
The show will feature food vendors, a golf tournament, hole in one contest, two beer gardens, 50-50 raffle, a kid zone, gift certificates and more. To keep traffic down along River Road, onsite lot parking will go for $10. Parking is free in the lot adjacent the Giggling Cactus with free shuttle bus transportation to the event at Jack Smith Park.
A taco dinner and registration event that precedes the show starts at 5 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 21, at BPO Elks Lodge 1608, 1000 Lilyhill Dr. Tickets are $10 for two tacos, rice and beans and there will also be a full bar, beverages and chips and salsa.
The golf tournament was also touched on during the meeting. The price is $75, which includes continental breakfast, lunch, carts, prizes and a goody bag. Tee time for the 3-man team tournament is at 8 a.m. A hole-in-one contest gives golfers a chance to win $500 in cash.

The 19th Hole Bar and Grill was present at the meeting and representatives stated they would have one bar open on Friday and two open on Saturday. The event organizers suggested that the bar come up with two themed drinks for the weekend. Those who visit the 19th Hole Bar and Grill during the weekend event should keep an eye out for those themed drinks.
A point regarding the Mayor’s Award was brought up during the event meeting. It was suggested by Billy Berkenheger, better known as Billy B, to create a special plaque that has the picture of the person and their winning entry. The organizers were in agreement and would further investigate if that was a possibility.
The organizers talked about the goodie bags that were to be provided during the event and stated that vendors should have their goodie bags ready by Feb. 8.
It was stated during the meeting that Hope.Found, the Set Free Church Band, is to perform during the Route 66 Hot Boat and Custom Car Show.
