CLERGY ABUSE-COMPENSATION FUND
PHILADELPHIA — Claims administrators and members of an Independent Oversight Committee will discuss details of a victims’ compensation program for victims of child sex abuse in Pennsylvania’s Catholic dioceses following an announcement last week of the Independent Reconciliation and Reparations Program. The Archdiocese of Philadelphia is scheduled to begin taking applications this week, while other dioceses are set to follow in January.
— CLERGY ABUSE-DEFIANT BISHOP — A retired Roman Catholic bishop in Pennsylvania who has come under harsh criticism for his handling of clergy sex abuse has defied his successor by attending this week’s national meeting of U.S. bishops.
— FIREFIGHTER INJURED — A firefighter battling a house fire in Philadelphia was injured after falling off a roof.
— BARBERSHOP SHOOTING — Philadelphia police say a barbershop owner shot and wounded a man who he says was attacking him.
