University of Delaware, Delaware State see record enrollment
WILMINGTON, Del. (AP) — Both the University of Delaware and Delaware State University have seen record enrollment this year.
The News Journal reports the University of Delaware saw a 3 percent jump, to nearly 24,000 students. At DSU, enrollment is around 4,600, up about 2 percent.
Those increases come amid a national trend of declining college enrollment partly due to a dip in U.S. birth rates, especially in the Midwest and Northeast.
Admissions officers at both Delaware schools say they’ve bucked the trend by tapping into new markets to find potential college-goers.
Officials also told the newspaper they’ve been working to make their campuses stand out with new programs and experiences.
