Sandra ‘Sandi’ Kay Van Hoof

Sandra “Sandi” Kay Van Hoof, passed away peacefully at her beloved cabin in Wabasha, with her husband, Jerry, holding her hand Wednesday, Sept. 26, 2018.

She was born Sept. 20, 1944, in Winona. She graduated from Cotter High School in the class of 1962. She was a lifelong resident of Winona. Sandi Brown was married to Jerry Van Hoof May 6, 1967. They enjoyed 51 years of marriage that included four children and two grandchildren. Over the years she worked at Linahan’s Supper Club, managed Fairway Woods apartment complex, started the deli at Midtown Foods, and ended her career at Sprint. Sandi was a fierce, feisty lady with a loving, gentle soul. She loved nothing more than being with and taking care of those she loved—especially her husband, children and grandchildren. She was a three time cancer survivor and lived with COPD for the last seven years of her life. Her passions included cooking, music, dancing, shopping, parades, cruising the river and sending cards and gifts to her loved ones. In the last year of her life she shared that all of her dreams had come true. She had a wonderful husband whom she loved deeply, children and grandsons she passionately cared for, and her dream cabin off the backwaters of the Mississippi, where she cherished the 17 years she shared with family and friends. Her beauty, resilience, courage and humor will be greatly missed by all who knew her.

Survived by her loving husband, Jerry; her adoring children, Tony (Jeremy Bue), Bryan (Nicole Weber), Katrina Boyum (Mitch), Vanessa (Dustin Miller); and the lights of her life, her grandchildren, Brooks and Briggs Boyum. She is also survived by many loving extended family members, including Shirley and John Brown, Jeff, Paula, and Benjamin Brown, Jody Wilson, Justin, Gretta, and Taylor Borchardt-Wilson, Kris and Amy Van Hoof, Tom and Therese Van Hoof, Mary Sue and Larry Chapman (Carrie, Jake, Ben, Andy), Kathy Van Hoof (Adam and Alice Kaehler), Elizabeth and John Kaufold (Dan and Dave), Jim Van Hoof, Bill and Carmen Van Hoof (Justin, John, and Allison), John and Jodi Werner (Joe and Matt), Bill and Janine Werner (Annie and Max), Kathie Bernsen (Will and Chris), and Scott Werner; and many dear friends.

Preceded in death by her mother, Alice Feehan; brother, Roger Brown; sister, Diane Wilson; her mothers-in-law, Alice Van Hoof and Joyce Weir; her father-in-law, John Van Hoof; and her brother-in-law, Denny Van Hoof.

Mass of Christian Burial will be noon, Monday, Oct. 1, at the Cathedral of the Sacred Heart, Winona. The visitation will begin at 10:30 a.m. Monday at the church.

There will be a celebration of life for Sandi Oct. 21, 2018. Details will follow. Memorials preferred in her name to Cotter High School or Winona Area Catholic Schools.
