Long John Silver’s robbery thwarted
La PORTE – A teenager who tried to rob a La Porte restaurant on Tuesday was arrested minutes later while walking away from the scene, according to police.
La Porte Police received a report about an attempted armed robbery involving a knife at the Long John Silver’s at 602 J St., according to Capt. Bill Degnegaard.
The suspect did not get any money from the restaurant, and employees were able to provide a detailed description to police, he said.
As Det. Sgt. Brett Airy was arriving in the area, he saw a person who matched the suspect’s description walking away from the restaurant, according to police.
Officers detained the individual within five minutes of the original call, and “were able to have employees of the business identify this individual as the suspect,” Degnegaard said.
The weapon allegedly used in the crime was found in a nearby yard and taken as evidence, police said. The suspect was transported to the Juvenile Detention Center without incident.
The suspect’s name is not being released due to being a minor.
