JAPAN-NISSAN

TOKYO _ Nissan, the Japanese automaker under scrutiny after its former chairman Carlos Ghosn was arrested on suspicion of financial misconduct, is recalling 150,000 vehicles spanning 11 models in Japan for dubious inspections for brakes and steering. Nissan Motor Co. Corporate Vice President Seiji Honda told reporters Friday that a recall will be issued next week, and measures will be taken to prevent a recurrence. By Yuri Kageyama.

FATAL WELFARE CHECK, from FAIRVIEW, Tenn. _ Criminal charges won’t be filed against two Tennessee police officers who killed a man police say refused to drop a knife during a welfare check.

READING GRANTS, from NASHVILLE, Tenn. _ Tennessee has awarded $8.9 million for next year’s summer reading program.

TRANSPORTATION GRANT, from NASHVILLE, Tenn. _ A $25 million federal grant will help build a new interstate interchange in Middle Tennessee.
