LOUISVILLE, Ky. (AP) — Jim McGhee, who worked with Louisville athletics since 1977, including the last 24 as assistant director for varsity sports and student life, has died. He was 73.
The school announced in a release that McGhee’s visitation is May 13 with his funeral on May 14 at Watson Memorial Baptist Church in Louisville. An athletics spokeswoman said McGhee died on Saturday. The cause of death was not mentioned at his family’s request.
Referred to as Mr. McGhee around the program, he worked with nearly every Cardinal varsity sport and operated a summer program for at-risk youth for 20 years for the department. McGhee joined Louisville as assistant trainer and football equipment manager and became equipment and facilities manager in 1986 before his most recent responsibility.
The Mississippi Valley State University graduate earned his master’s degree from Boston University and worked at Harvard and Texas Southern.
