Trevor Ariza to start for Wizards

December 18, 2018

Washington Wizards forward Trevor Ariza will make his team debut Tuesday night. Well, his second debut.

Ariza played for Washington in 2012-13 and 2013-14, and he will put on a Wizards uniform Tuesday night and join the starting five when the team plays at the Atlanta Hawks.

Ariza last played for the Wizards in May 2014, in a second-round playoff loss to Indiana.

After a botched attempt at a three-team trade including the Memphis Grizzlies, the Wizards and Phoenix Suns made a deal that sent Ariza to Washington and Kelly Oubre Jr. and Austin Rivers to Phoenix. The Suns then released Rivers Tuesday.

Ariza, 33, is seen as a defensive-minded winger expected to add someleadership that had been lacking in the Wizards’ locker room this year. Washington started the season 2-9 and is currently 12-18.
