WESTFORD -- The Parish Center for Arts will introduce a new folk and world music concert series this weekend, complementing a rotation of jazz, rock and comedy shows that have been running for 20 seasons.

The Hanneke Cassel Trio, led by fiddler Hanneke Cassel, will open the new series on Oct. 13 at 7:30 p.m. The group will perform a mix of traditional Scottish music and original compositions.

Tickets are available online for $23 for PCA members and $25 for non-members.


Council on Aging health fair

DRACUT -- The Council on Aging will host its annual health fair from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday. The free event will feature a wide range of businesses and community resources that focus on senior needs.

There will be refreshments, free screenings, and raffles, according to the event description. The Council on Aging is located at 951 Mammoth Rd., Dracut.


Absentee ballots available now

BOSTON -- Absentee ballots are now available in every Massachusetts community ahead of the Nov. 6 elections, Secretary of State William Galvin announced Wednesday.

Voters can request absentee ballots by submitting a written request or an application available on Galvin’s website to their local election official. They can also apply and submit an absentee vote in person up until 12 p.m. on Nov. 5.

Early voting is also open this year beginning on Oct. 22. Additional information is available at www.sec.state.ma.us/ele .


‘Daisies for Dorie’ event in Lowell

LOWELL -- Count the Kicks Massachusetts Ambassador Jillian Ducharme will hold a “Daisies for Dorie” fundraiser on Saturday, Oct. 14. Dorie is the nickname for Dorothie, the daughter Ducharme lost at 36 weeks of pregnancy one year ago. The fundraiser will be held from 2-5 p.m. at Cappy’s Copper Kettle, 245 Central St. Tickets are $5 and can be purchased at the door. For information visit countthekicks.org/team/jillian-ducharme /.


Guitar raffle to help fight cancer

LOWELL -- University Music is holding an electric guitar raffle for the Breast Cancer Research Foundation throughout October, in honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month. The music store is located at 1717 Middlesex St. Tickets cost $1, and all of the proceeds are going to charity. People can enter as many times as they want. The winning ticket will be drawn on Halloween.


Library event spotlights trail

LOWELL -- The Bay Circuit Trail is the star in a presentation at the Lowell Public Library on Oct. 23 at 7 p.m. Alan French, Dan Brielmann and Marilyn Brielmann created a video journal of the 200 mile trail around Boston from Newburyport to Kingston. The event includes music, videos and information about the trail. The Carlisle Library will host a similar event on Oct. 18 at 7 p.m.
