The secrets of the Museum of Hardin County
A recent transplant to Southeast Texas, Beaumont Enterprise photographer Ryan Welch was intrigued when he heard that his new home was considered the museum capital of Texas.
So Welch set out to explore the bounty of local collections. When he visited, he asked the curators, docents and staff to show him the museum’s best kept secrets.
This is the first in a series of Ryan’s deep dives into local collections. First up: the Museum of Hardin County. In future editions of Cat5, Ryan will illuminate museums in all corners of Southeast Texas.
The Museum of Hardin County is only open a few hours one day of the week, so you’ll have to be strategic to visit.
It’s worth it, Ryan says. “Many of these best-kept secrets were interesting not because of the piece itself but rather because of the story behind it,” Welch says.
