Roger Hill, 89, formerly of Beaver Dam

Roger E. Hill, 89, loving husband and father, passed away Wednesday, March 14, 2019, in McAllen, Texas.

Roger was born May 14, 1929, in Dalton, Wisconsin, to Harold and Thelma (Hoffa) Hill. Roger married Corrine (Werdin) in 1950 and had two children, Todd and Lorna (Curt Anschuetz). Roger married a second time to Janet (Schiferl) in 1984, who cared for him lovingly in the Adobe Wells community in McAllen, Texas, until his death.

He was preceded in death by his sister, Wilma (Schmudlach) and his brother, Ken.

Survivors include his wife, Janet; his children, Todd and Lorna (Curt Anschuetz); grandchildren and great-grandchildren; the mother of his children, Corrine; several cousins, nieces and nephews.

Roger graduated from Montello High School. He was drafted into the U.S. Army and served in Germany during the Korean War. Upon return from the service, he lived in Beaver Dam, and worked in both the private and public sector as a tool and die maker for John Deere, and in local and county government as a police officer, detective and private investigator with the Dodge County Sheriff’s Department. He was elected Register of Deeds for Dodge County and held that position for 12 years before retiring.

Post-retirement, Roger took his many talents and passions to another level. With his love of the outdoors, he opened a wildlife art gallery, also carving and painting waterfowl, which was a skill that he shared with his brother Ken. He became a fishing guide in Lake of the Woods, Minnesota. He enjoyed hunting and fishing with family and friends, trap shooting, playing cards, golf and bowling.

A celebration of life is planned on May 11, 2019, at Adobe Wells in McAllen, Texas.

Plans are in process for a memorial service and burial on a future date at Marcellon Cemetery in Marcellon, Wisconsin.
