New Milford police K-9 helps save overdose victim

February 7, 2019

DANBURY — A New Milford police officer administered life-saving Narcan after his K-9 led him to the suicidal man in a wooden area in 15-degree weather.

Officer Mike Lafond and his K-9, Kira, were called to help Danbury police locate the man who had threatened suicide and ran from a residence on Jan. 26, according to New Milford police.

After more than an hour, Kira found the man unresponsive in a wooded area.

Lafond administered two doses of Narcan to the man, who was transported to the hospital and has recovered.

“This is an example of the excellent police work our K-9 teams perform on a continual basis,” New Milford Police Chief Cerruto said.

Cerruto commended Lafond and Kira “for their quick and determined action to locate and provide the necessary medical assistance.”

“If the person was not located, the outcome could have been tragic,” he said.
