New dual-model health clinic opens in Scottsbluff

March 6, 2019

SCOTTSBLUFF — A new health clinic opened its doors in late February, with owner Alicia Gonzales-Longoria aiming to provide a place that people want to come to for urgent and chronic care needs.

Elite Urgent Care and Family Health held a soft opening last week and celebrated its grand opening on Monday. Elite Urgent Care and Family Health is located in the Elite Health Center, located at 820 W. 42nd St.

“We already had some scheduled appointments on opening week and some walk-ins. It (the clinic) is truly functioning as a dual model clinic,” Gonzales-Longoria said.

As a dual model clinic, patients with urgent health care needs and chronic conditions can be seen in the same clinic. Urgent care needs are things such as sudden illnesses, aches and pains, sprains or fractures.

“We don’t take the place of the emergency room, but we can treat those things that you don’t plan for, but are non-emergent,” Gonzales-Longoria said.

Chronic care needs can entail needing treatment for managing conditions such as diabetes, blood pressure, thyroid conditions or many other health conditions. The clinic will also offer physicals, wellness exams and even DOT exams, which requires a certified physician.

“One of my frustrations in the traditional clinic setting was that I was unable to see patients who needed care right at that moment. In some cases, even with chronic conditions, a patient needs to be seen right away instead of being scheduled with their provider in six to eight weeks.”

After working in a dual model clinic in eastern Nebraska, Longoria-Gonzales said she saw firsthand that patients know and understand when to schedule an appointment versus walking in for an urgent care need.

Gonzales-Longoria is a nurse practiti oner and has been working in health care for more than 15 years. As nurse practitioners become more common, especially in rural areas, she said she finds that patients are becoming used to seeing nurse practitioners acting as their primary provider.

Patients can use the clinic’s website to schedule appointments, which are available from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m., Monday through Saturday. As more providers are added, Gonzales-Longoria hopes to extend hours into the evenings for people.

The clinic’s website can also help speed up appointments because patients can fill out paperwork before an appointment, make medication requests and other needs. The website is available at eliteurgentcareandfamilyhealth.com.

Appointments can also be scheduled over the phone, 308-633-6202.
