Woman dies from injuries sustained in accident
A 66-year-old Ludington woman died from the injuries she sustained from an accident Wednesday night at the intersection of Ludington Avenue and South Jackson Road, according to Ludington Police Chief Mark Barnett in a press release.
The Muskegon County Medical Examiner’s Office notified the Ludington Police Department at 2:40 a.m. Friday that Gail Diane Brittain, 66, of Ludington, died as a result from the injuries of the accident. Barnett said an autopsy was being conducted in Kalamazoo.
Brittain was struck by a westbound Subaru when she was crossing to the northside of Ludington Avenue at the intersection. The department previously stated that witness statements and evidence at the scene indicated that the driver of the Subaru entered the intersection of Jackson Road and Ludington Avenue on a green light.
Barnett said the Subaru driver is a Custer resident and that police are awaiting the results of a toxicology test on the driver before any charges might be pursued.
Oak Grove Funeral Home & Cremation Center is handling the services for Brittain.
