TAMPA, Fla. (AP) _ Terry Whitfield’s pinch-hit grand-slam homer in the 10th inning powered the Los Angeles Dodgers to an 8-2 exhibition baseball victory Tuesday over the Cincinnati Reds.

The Dodgers tied the game 2-2 in the ninth on Enos Cabell’s pinch-hit double off John Franco, then erupted for six runs in the 10th off non-roster pitcher Jeff Montgomery, 0-1, and minor leaguer Hugh Kemp.

Whitfield’s grand slam capped the six-run outburst and gave the victory to Carlos Diaz, 1-0.

The Dodgers and Reds, who finished first and second last season in the National League West, are both 2-2 in spring training games.

Los Angeles scored in the first on Greg Brock’s sacrifice fly off starter John Denny. Catcher Sal Butera’s two-run homer off minor leaguer Rod Roche put the Reds ahead in the seventh.

The Dodgers managed just one hit over the first eight innings off Denny, Ron Robinson, Ted Power and Franco. Mariano Duncan’s infield single and Cabell’s double sent it to the 10th.

Steve Sax singled home the go-ahead run in the 10th off Montgomery, and another run scored on Duncan’s RBI infield single off Kemp, who came in when Montgomery was grazed on the elbow by a grounder. Kemp served up Whitfield’s homer.

Bob Welch and Bobby Castillo worked three scoreless innings apiece for the Dodgers before Roche allowed Butera’s home run.
