Friday, May 3

n Wildflower 5K run/walk. 5 p.m. Beech Fork State Park. Barboursville. The race course will start at the basketball courts, continue around the Fitness Trail, through the tunnel, down the office side of Old Orchard, across the park road, down the Road to Nowhere, through the Nature Trail Loop, down the Long Branch Trail, across the road and around Old Orchard, through the tunnel, back around the Fitness Trail, and ending back at the basketball courts. $30 entry. Proceeds go to support Beech Fork State Park Foundation’s Wildflower Festival on May 4.

Saturday, May 4

n The Steeplechase Amy for Africa Derby Classic. 9 a.m. First Congregational Church of Ceredo, Ceredo. The course is a fast and flat two lap route around the town of Ceredo. It is great for beginners and walkers. $10 entry. Proceeds will go to Amy for Africa and various missions of the church. There will be a Derby picnic/party immediately following the race, with hamburgers and hotdogs. Door prizes will be given away and we will have a contest for the “Best Derby Hat”

n First Derby Classic 5K. 9 a.m. Boyd County High School. Canonsburg. Mostly flat course with a few rolling hills around Boyd County High School campus and surrounding areas. $25 entry. This fundraiser is to help offset the many costs the Boyd County High School Baseball Program will incur throughout the 2019 season.

n Dusting Childhood Illness 5k. 10 a.m. Ritter Park. Huntington. Mostly flat pathway at beautiful Ritter Park. Race will start and finish at the Fountain area. $25 entry. The race will benefit the West Virginia Dusters 04 fastpitch softball team and the Hoops Family Children’s Hospital.

n Kellong Elementary Galactic 5K Kids’ Fun Run. 9 a.m. Kellogg Elementary School. Huntington. The course will begin and end at Kellogg Elementary School and will run through the Westmoreland Neighborhood (Piedmont and Waverly Road). Terrain is mostly flat. $25 entry. Proceeds from this 5K will support after school programs for Kellogg Elementary students, more than half of whom live below Federal Poverty Level.

Sunday, May 5

n 2nd Annual BAMM BAMM 5K by For Jamie’s Sake. 2 p.m. Boyd County Courthouse. Catlettsburg. Flat and fast thru downtown Catlettsburg. Starts and ends at the courthouse. Course will be an out and back section then a loop out thru the historic city district. $25 entry. For Jamie’s Sake is a 501c3 non-profit foster and adoption resource center that strives to raise awareness for children in foster care and those waiting to be adopted, while normalizing adoption as a means of creating a “forever family.”

n 3rd annual AARF Stride for Strays. 2 p.m. Paul Coffey Park, 12365 Kevin Avenue. Ashland. $25 entry. 5K Run/Walk, 2K Walk. All proceeds benefit Ashland Animal Rescue Foundation.
