Robot Doing Construction
Science fiction is one step closer to science fact, thanks to a cool-looking, matte-black robot that looks like it’s built for battle -- but in fact its purpose is more modest: it hangs drywall.
Japan’s Advanced Industrial Science and Technology Institute showed off video of HRP-5P doing its thing. While a couple of humans could ostensibly work faster, the prototype bot is strong enough to lift sheet rock, fit them and screw them in place, all by itself.
Robots of this type could someday be used to assemble cars and planes, and do jobs that are too dangerous for a human to perform.
If nothing else, it’s just really cool to see a scary-looking shiny black robot armed with a screw gun.
