NORTHFIELD, N.H. (AP) — Police in New Hampshire are searching for a man who they say asked a homeowner for help before stealing his car.

WMUR-TV reports the robbery happened Wednesday morning in Northfield. Police say the suspect knocked on the victim's door and told him he was out of gas.

Authorities say the victim offered to drive the suspect to a gas station before the he started looking through the home. Police say the suspect threatened to hurt the man and then he fled with a laptop and the victim's car.

The victim wasn't hurt in the incident.

Police say the public isn't in danger. An investigation continues.
