Crowne Plaza preparing for first guests in early January
The newest piece of Riverside Village in North Augusta is nearing completion before opening its doors. The 180-room Crowne Plaza Hotel is preparing to welcome its first guests at the beginning of January.
“Finishing touches are going in now, we’re continuing to train an amazing staff and otherwise making the property and its services something that will be unparalleled in the market,” said David Sulak, director of sales and marketing for the Crowne Plaza Hotel.
The hotel was initially set to open Dec. 27.
Sulak called the hotel “the new kid on the block” during an October interview. It’s the newest hotel in North Augusta, but Sulak said it’s also the first Crowne Plaza built from the ground up in 10 years.
Along with those 180 guest rooms, the hotel also includes 17,000 square feet of meeting space and a 5,400 square foot ballroom.
The hotel will also include a restaurant called Salt + Marrow Kitchen, featuring a Grillworks system. Grillworks is a wood-burning grill where chefs can change the cooking temperature by raising or lowering the cooking plate from the flame.
“The ability to have a restaurant that’s of the caliber of Salt + Marrow inside of a hotel is something that we’re getting a lot of excitement about, something we’re getting a lot of feedback from,” Sulak said in November.
Special dinners with guest chefs will be offered throughout the year, according to a fact sheet on the hotel.
The hotel will also have a rooftop bar called Jackson’s Bluff. The fact sheet says it will be “the ideal spot in the area for enjoying beautiful views, people watching, hand-crafted cocktails, small plates, beer and wine.”
The hotel will also include an outdoor pool and a fitness center.
The hotel is the newest business to open in Riverside Village, joining SRP Park, the new stadium where the Augusta GreenJackets have one season under their belts, and the Ironwood Apartments and The Clubhouse apartments.
