STORMY DANIELS RETURNS TO PERFORM AFTER CHARGES DROPPED

COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) — The attorney for Stormy Daniels says his client was “set up” — and that her arrest was an “absurd use of law enforcement resources.” Prosecutors in Columbus, Ohio have dropped the charges they filed against the porn star who says she had an extramarital affair with Donald Trump before he became president. Daniels was charged with three misdemeanors after she was accused of illegal contact with undercover police officers attending her show. Prosecutors say she was improperly charged because the Ohio law against physical contact between strippers and customers applies only to regular performers at a club — and it was Daniels’ first appearance at the club in Columbus. She worked a different club last night.

EMMYS SURPRISES AND SNUBS

NEW YORK (AP) — It seems TV fans and the people who decide what they see love rebooting old series and bringing them back. But that love doesn’t extend to Emmy voters. That was clear when it came to the nominations, announced yesterday. Take “Roseanne.” The reboot was a ratings hit when it returned. But it was virtually ignored in the nominations. The only one it got was for supporting actress Laurie Metcalf. And lest you think the Roseanne snub was due to star Roseanne Barr’s racist tweet storm that led to her being fired and her show canceled — it wasn’t the only popular reboot ignored. Also shut out: “Will & Grace,” ″Twin Peaks” and “Young Sheldon.” While not a reboot, Sheldon was a spinoff of the popular comedy “The Big Bang Theory.” The reboot snub even applied to the revival of “American Idol,” which was also shut out.

EMMYS — “SATURDAY NIGHT LIVE”

LOS ANGELES (AP) — It may not be President Donald Trump’s favorite show. But “Saturday Night Live” continues its hold as the most-nominated TV show ever. It picked up another 21, bringing its lifetime total to 252, the most of any show ever. Number two all-time is “Game of Thrones” with 129 nods. It surpasses “ER” as the drama which has yielded the most nominees.

EMMYS AND PRESIDENT TRUMP

LOS ANGELES (AP) — Maybe Jimmy Fallon should have pulled Donald Trump’s hair, instead of asking to run his fingers through it — he might have done better with Emmy voters. One trend that emerged from this year’s nominees is that several shows unfriendly to Trump got Emmy nods. Up for best talk show hosts are Trevor Noah, Jimmy Kimmel, Stephen Colbert and Samantha Bee of “Full Frontal.” Bee drew fire earlier this year for a lewd reference to Ivanka Trump. Among anti-Trump critics who didn’t get Emmy nods were Seth Meyers and Bill Maher (MAHR).

EMMYS - MINORITY MAJORITIES

LOS ANGELES (AP) — The Emmys continue to do a good job of promoting diversity in TV. Minorities account for more than a-third of the acting nominees. And in three Emmy categories, minority actors made up more than half the nominees: supporting actor in a limited series or movie, guest actor in a comedy series and guest actress in a drama series. Only one acting category, supporting actor in a drama series, had all-white nominees. And there was a bit of history made. Sandra Oh has become the first nominee of Asian descent to get a nomination for leading actress in a drama series for her work on “Killing Eve.”

EMMYS — HBO GETS ‘ONLY’ 108 NOMS

LOS ANGELES (AP) — This year’s Emmy nominations brought a sea change in fortunes for HBO. For the first time since 2001, the cable outlet didn’t lead the nominations. The honor for top platform: Netflix, with 112. This year HBO finished second with 108 nominations. NBC is third with 78, tops for broadcast.

EMMYS - ANTHONY BOURDAIN

UNDATED (AP) — The late globe-trotting foodie Anthony Bourdain received several Emmy nominations. His CNN series “Parts Unknown” has six nominations, two of them for him individually. Bourdain killed himself in France last month.

TYLER PERRY DENOUNCES FACEBOOK GIVEAWAY SCAM

LOS ANGELES (AP) — It’s not that Tyler Perry is tight with his money; he has often donated cars and houses to friends, employees — and people whose plight he hears about on the news. It’s just that in this case, he isn’t. The movie director has gone on Facebook to warn about a scam in which users of the social platform are told he’s looking to share his fortune. Perry warns the bogus sites exist just to skim personal information from would-be recipients.
