Authorities: Slain pregnant woman let killer in security gate
Cumberland County authorities were searching Thursday for a man suspected of shooting two women Wednesday, killing one and her unborn child.
Deputies responded to a reported shooting at 2929 Spur Drive in the Buckhead Farm neighborhood at about 3:45 p.m. and found Tylehya Thomas, 26, dead and Inda Davis, 33, suffering from a gunshot wound.
Davis was taken to Cape Fear Valley Medical Center, where she was treated and released. A third woman inside the home at the time wasn’t injured.
Buckhead Farm has monitored, 24-hour access with a security gate, and Thomas let her suspected killer in through the gate, investigators said.
Thomas had met the man on a social dating website and had invited him back to the mobile she shared with Davis and a third woman, investigators said. The couple went to a back room, and that’s where Thomas was shot.
One of the other women in the home called 911 and told a dispatcher that she was asleep on the couch and awoke to find a man fighting with Thomas.
“I jumped on him and dragged him off,” she told the dispatcher, adding that Thomas was bleeding and unconscious but that she didn’t know what had happened to her.
A neighbor also called 911 and said one of the women came into her home, said she had been shot, grabbed a towel to stop bleeding from the back of her head and walked back across the street.
The gunman was described as a black man possibly in his 20s, between 5 feet 8 inches and 6 feet tall, with a medium build, a light complexion and wavy, close-cut hair. He was seen driving away in a newer model, white, four-door Ford F-150 pickup.
Sean Swain, a spokesman for the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office, said investigators are trying to obtain security video from the entrance gate and other cameras around Buckhead Farm to get images of the gunman and his truck.
Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to call the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office at 910-323-1500 or Crime Stoppers at 910-483-8477.
