QUEBEC (AP) _ Randy Cunneyworth scored four goals and Mario Lemieux added two as the Pittsburgh Penguins routed the Quebec Nordiques 8-1 Tuesday night in the NHL.

Cunneyworth, who had a three-goal game earlier in the season, tied the game 1-1 with his 21st goal at 4:53 of the first period. Basil McRae had scored for Quebec 1:57 into the game.

The Penguins then ripped off seven consective goals, with Lemieux giving Pittsburgh a 2-1 lead at 15:38 of the first period.

Lemieux made 3-1 with his 43rd at 3:55 of the second and Cunneyworth added two goals in the period along with a score by Bob Errey.

Willy Lindstrom and Cunneyworth closed out the Pittsburgh scoring in the final period.

Pat Riggin stopped 29 of 30 shots in the Pittsburgh goal. He is now 3-2-2 since joining the Penguins.

Mario Gosselin played the first two periods for Quebec and faced 18 shots, allowing six goals.

The victory lifted the fifth-place Penguins to within three points (62-59) of the New York Rangers in the Patrick Division.
