Tigers’ Morris Placed on 15-Day DL
DETROIT (AP) _ The Detroit Tigers placed first baseman Hal Morris on the 15-day disabled list Wednesday with a fractured left index finger.
Morris sustained the injury while fielding grounders before Tuesday’s game against the Baltimore Orioles. Morris, who is batting .296 since being acquired from the Cincinnati Reds on July 18, was able to start Tuesday’s game, but left in the eighth inning due to swelling.
The Tigers recalled first baseman-outfielder Dusty Allen from Triple-A Toledo to replace Morris.
Allen was acquired from San Diego on July 17 in a trade that sent infielder Gabe Alvarez to the Padres. Allen has combined to hit .282 between Triple-A Las Vegas and Toledo this season, with 16 home runs and 64 RBIs.
