Jay Gruden, Zach Brown cleared up linebacker’s critical tweet
ASHBURN Zach Brown did not see his playing time affected in Sunday’s win over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers after he tweeted critical remarks about the Redskins’ coaching staff. The linebacker took 75.4 percent of the team’s defensive snaps, which was standard.
On Saturday, Brown tweeted “Own coaches hating and blaming me for Atl loss smh naw B check the film b4 blaming someone eye in the sky don’t lie” before quickly deleting it.
Coach Jay Gruden said Monday he didn’t consider benching Brown.
“For his tweet? No, I’m not going to discipline anybody for a tweet,” Gruden said with a laugh. “No, we’re OK. We need Zach Brown.”
Brown declined to address the tweet after the game. He finished with nine tackles against the Buccaneers.
Gruden said the two did discuss the issue.
“I think there was a little miscommunication there; I don’t think anybody pinned any blame on Zach Brown for the game against Atlanta,” Gruden said. “He might have felt like that based on a meeting or something like that but that wasn’t the case, I just assured him that wasn’t the case.
“It was a total team loss against Atlanta and no finger pointing is allowed in this building and we cleared it up.”
