Duncan, Van Horn Make Rookie Team
NEW YORK (AP) _ San Antonio’s Tim Duncan, New Jersey’s Keith Van Horn and four members of the Cleveland Cavaliers are among the 16 players selected to play in the NBA’s All-Rookie game during All-Star Weekend.
Joining Duncan on the West team will be Danny Fortson and Bobby Jackson of Denver, Rodrick Rhodes of Houston, Maurice Taylor of the Los Angeles Clippers, Antonio Daniels of Vancouver, Alvin Williams of Portland and Michael Stewart of Sacramento.
Van Horn’s teammates on the East team will be Derek Anderson, Brevin Knight, Cedric Henderson and Zydrunas Ilgaukas of Cleveland, Chauncey Billups and Ron Mercer of Boston, and Tim Thomas of Philadelphia.
With four players on the team, Cleveland is the first to have more than three players in the Schick Rookie game. The Los Angeles Lakers had Kobe Bryant, Derek Fisher and Travis Knight selected for the 1997 game.
Duncan leads all rookies in rebounding with an 11.6 average and in field goal percentage at .572, and is second in scoring at 17.4, blocked shots at 2.4 and minutes played at 37.4.
Van Horn leads the rookies in scoring at 19.4 and minutes played 39.3 and is fourth in rebounding at 6.3.
The coaches of the teams will be announced next week and the game will be played at Madison Square Garden Feb. 7, one day before the All-Star game.
