Park District to add ice rink next winter
DIXON – An ice rink will be coming to Page Park next winter.
Years ago, the Dixon Park District used to flood and freeze the basketball courts at Vaile and Page parks, but the makeshift ice rinks would be uneven and difficult to maintain, district executive director Duane Long said Tuesday.
Long came across a company that sells ice rink kits that make the process a lot easier and plans to purchase a 60-by-100-foot kit from EZ Ice for about $6,000 out of next year’s budget.
“We want to bring it back, and we think it will be a great thing for people to enjoy,” Long said.
The rink will be set up at the Page Park basketball courts the next time winter rears its head, and Long is looking for volunteers who will be willing to help maintain it next year.
The ice rink is another line in a list of improvements planned throughout the district, including the new $515,000 Water Wonderland splash pad expected to be completed in June in Meadows Park near Wooden Wonderland and a new playground with a zip line stretching 75 feet in Lowell Park likely to be installed in the fall.
