NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) _ Frank Seckar tied a career high with 30 points and Drew Maddux added 21 as Vanderbilt cruised past North Carolina A&T 96-81 Sunday afternoon.

Vanderbilt (8-2) was never really troubled by the Aggies (1-5) but found itself unable to totally put A&T away until the final minutes.

The Commodores turned back the Aggies’ final comeback attempt when Billy DiSpaltro turned in a 3-point play and Seckar followed with a 3-point jumper for an 81-64 Vandy lead with 7:01 to play.

The Aggies had pulled within 75-64 after two free throws by Sean Stimpson, but would never again threaten Vandy.

Maddux and Seckar paced the Commodores to a 44-35 halftime lead from behind the 3-point line.

Maddux hit four 3-pointers and also added a 3-point play for 15 of his 21 total points, while Seckar hit three times from behind the arc for nine of his 11 points in the opening half.

The Aggies fell behind by 11 points twice in the first half, the last at 41-30 with 2:37 left until intermission.

A baseline jumper by Derick Powell and a 3-pointer by Tarik Beasley allowed the Aggies to close the gap before the break.

Derick Powell and Tarik Beasley topped A&T with 16 points, while Kimani Stewart had 14 for the Aggies.

Following Seckar and Maddux for Vanderbilt were Vince Ford with 14 points, DiSpaltro with 13 and Pax Whitehead with 11.
