George Washington 68, Rhode Island 58

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) _ Nimbo Hammons came off the bench to score 22 points as George Washington handed Rhode Island its seventh straight loss, 68-58, in an Atlantic 10 game Tuesday.

The two teams traded the lead through the opening minutes before a 3-pointer by Hammons with 9:01 left in the first half put George Washington ahead for good.

The Colonials (12-7 overall, 5-2 conference) then went on a 15-4 run and went into halftime leading 33-24. Rhode Island (4-10, 0-5) struggled from the field throughout the game, shooting only 27 percent in the first 20 minutes and 31 percent for the game.

Behind the shooting of senior center David Bialski, Rhode Island rallied to within a point, 35-34, with 15:40 to play. A slam dunk by Rhode Island’s Hassan Jarrett drew his team within 2, 43-41, with 10:12 left in the game.

But the Rams went the next nine minutes without a field goal.

Kwame Evans added 16 points for George Washington.

Bialski, a transfer from Yale, led Rhode Island with a career-high 20. Cuttino Mobley had 11.
