Credit-card theft, fraud on shopping trip

July 30, 2018

GREENWICH — A local woman was doubly victimized while shopping in central Greenwich this weekend.

The shopper at Whole Foods on East Putnam Avenue reported to police that her wallet had been taken while she was in the store Saturday evening. A short time after officers took her report, her credit card was used to make a purchase nearby. Police did not have the specifics on the use of the credit card.

“It’s a good reminder: when you’re shopping, keep your valuables with you,” said police Lt. John Slusarz, “There will be people who will reach in and grab something when you’re not looking.”

The case is under investigation.
