Balliet honored at event Sunday
The late Eric J. Balliet of Fort Wayne is among 80 firefighters who died in the line of duty last year and 23 who died in previous years who will be honored by the U.S. Fire Service at a ceremony Sunday at the National Fire Academy in Emmitsburg, Maryland.
Balliet was a Fort Wayne Fire Department battalion chief who died while leading a physically demanding training exercise Sept. 27, 2017. He was 41.
Balliet’s name will be added to the National Fallen Firefighters Memorial on the grounds of the National Fire Academy. The tribute is sponsored by the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation and the Department of Homeland Security’s U.S. Fire Administration.
