Springboks flanker Botha injured on comeback
PRETORIA, South Africa (AP) — South Africa flanker Arno Botha will miss the entire Super Rugby season after hurting his left knee in his comeback match from a serious injury to the same knee last year.
The Bulls said that Botha would be out for at least six months with anterior cruciate ligament damage sustained in the Bulls’ loss to the Stormers in a preseason game on Saturday.
Scans confirmed the injury on Monday and the 22-year-old Botha will have surgery on Tuesday. He previously ruptured ligaments in the knee in his second test for South Africa last June and had to have surgery then.
World Cup-winning Springboks lock Victor Matfield also made his comeback in Saturday’s game after more than two years in retirement, playing off the bench in the Bulls’ 26-19 loss.
