Turkey seizes massive haul of heroin
ISTANBUL (AP) — Turkey’s state-run news agency says customs officers have seized more than 1500 pounds (nearly 700 kgs) of heroin at a checkpoint on the Bulgarian border.
The Anatolia news agency says that a Croatian national, who was driving a truck with the drugs hidden in laundry machines, was detained but Turkish agents on Thursday. Officials say that the shipment was loaded in Istanbul and was marked for delivery in Bosnia and Herzegovina after transit through Bulgaria.
The Turkish Ministry of Customs and Trade estimated that the seized drugs were worth $18.5 million.
