January 11, 2001

LEXINGTON, Ky. (AP) _ Jockey Shane Sellers could resume riding as early as this summer after undergoing reconstructive knee surgery.

Sellers underwent the two-hour procedure Wednesday on his left knee at the University of Kentucky Medical Center. He began physical therapy on Thursday.

Orthopedic sports medicine specialist Scott Mair, who performed the surgery, said the prognosis for Sellers’ riding career was good.

Sellers, 34, finished third nationally with $14,881,680 in earnings in 2000. Sellers finished first, second or third in 478 of 1,109 starts last year.
